Imagery Services

Hemisphere GPS Imagery uses infrared technology to help you see the big picture to identify everyday issues. We provide solutions in the following areas: Precision Agriculture and Vegetation Management.

For questions on our Precision Agriculture Solutions, please call Warren Thetford at (806) 777-8840.

Aerial Imagery

Aerial imagery can expose a great deal about soil and crop conditions. The “bird’s eye” view an aerial image provides, combined with field knowledge, allows growers to observe issues that affect yield. Our imagery technology enhances the ability to be proactive and recognize a problematic area, thus minimizing yield loss and limiting exposure to other areas of your field.

Hemisphere GPS Imagery uses infrared technology to help you see the big picture to identify these everyday issues.

Digital infrared sensors are very sensitive to subtle differences in plant health and growth rate. Anything that changes the appearance of leaves (such as discoloration, curling, wilting, and defoliation) has an effect on the image. Computer enhancement makes these variations within the canopy stand out, often indicating disease, water, weed, or fertility problems.

Because of our advanced technology, aerial imagery is over 30 times more detailed than any commercially available satellite imagery and is available in selected areas for the 2010 growing season.

Images can be taken on a scheduled or as needed basis. For questions on our Precision Agriculture Solutions, please call Warren Thetford at (806) 777-8840.

Advanced Aerial Imagery

Hemisphere GPS' advanced aerial imagery provides a snapshot of various crop conditions such as crop stress and herbicide damage, along with providing simple images for $1.00 an acre, $1.50 an acre for processed imagery, and variable rate images for $2.50 an acre.

Herbicide Damage:
Crop damage acreage can be accurately calculated using imagery.

Variable Rate
: Aerial images provide a snapshot of healthy and less than healthy crop conditions. These snapshots of crop variations can then be turned into variable rate prescription maps (PMaps) shown in the picture on the right.

Crop Stress
: Imagery can be used to identify crop stress over a period
of time.

Aerial Imagery for Irrigation

Uneven distribution of water can easily be shown using imagery, greatly improving your chances of addressing the issues for increased yields.

Drip: Imagery can help identify drop irrigation issues. At up to $1,000 an acre for drip tape installation, imagery is a quick and easy way to locate water distribution problems and have them corrected.

Row Water: Imagery quickly identifies uneven/poor water regulation in row water fields.

Pivots: Imagery can identify nozzle issues and pivot system speed problems in a pivot system.

Hemisphere GPS uses advanced technology to provide landowners a new approach to brush control. Automated aerial spraying limits spraying to only the areas you need treated. The result is lower cost due to reduced chemical waste. Brush treatments can be sculpted in patterns that increase grass production and benefit wildlife at the same time.

How it works

Spray systems are turned on and off automatically at predetermined increments, giving an applicator the ability to spray sections of land as small as one-eighth of an acre with minimal spray to adjacent vegetation. This allows for unwanted vegetation to be spot sprayed from the air, avoiding application of herbicides where they are not needed or wanted. It also keeps spray away from bodies of water and other sensitive areas.

Services

We offer customized aerial brush treatment. This automated, map-driven approach results in more cost-effective brush control, and allows for special options such as brush sculpting. It's a simple four step process:

Determine Goals:  We work with you to learn your brush management goals and provide options that will get you the results you want, whether you're managing for cattle, managing for wildlife, or a balance of both.

Map the Vegetation:  We use high resolution aerial imagery, and use spectral analysis software to map the different types of trees and brush. It's often as important to accurately map what you don't want to spray in addition to the target vegetation types

Format the Maps: We create the digital files for the automated spray system on the aircraft that performs the application.

Spray the Areas:  We work with a network of the best aerial applicators in the region. Odds are we can work with your favorite applicator.

We will work with you to manage the best outcome given a limited budget. If you have a 600-acre pasture, but a brush control budget for only 400 acres, we will treat only the thickest 400 acres within that 600 acres.  This provides the optimum treatment while allowing you to stay on budget.

If you want to treat your oak shinnery, but would like to leave 30% of it sculpted in natural patterns for deer and quail, we can manage the treatment to meet your needs.

We can use any of the following to determine what gets treated:

Vegetation type: mesquite, prickly pear, cedar, salt cedar, oak, cottonwood, etc.
Tree size:  leave big cottonwoods for turkeys, big oaks for bowhunting
Soil type:  manage for grass on most productive soils
Slope:  avoid erosion problems, maximize herbicide effectiveness
Brush density:  spray most cost effective areas
Buffer around sensitive areas:  water, food plots, critical habitat

Benefits

Cost savings of 10-40% through reduced chemical usage
Spray only carefully targeted areas
Automatic spray on/off programming allowing the pilot to focus only on flying

Applications

Selective brush control of mesquite, yucca, prickly pear, shinnery oak, etc.
Brush "sculpting" for improved deer, quail, turkey, and other wildlife habitat.
